Corn Vigor - 40F or 50F Cold

Corn 50F Cold sample ready for Evaluation

Corn 50F Cold sample ready for Evaluation

40F Cold Method

Two hundred seeds are planted on chilled media to emulate a 40-42°F water uptake. The cold duration is seven days at 40°F, in an aerobic environment, followed by a grow out at 77°F until 120+ Growing Degree Day (GDD) units are reached.  Check samples are planted and evaluated in every cart to assure consistency in testing. Developed by SoDak Labs, Inc. in 2021.

50F Cold Method

Two hundred seeds are planted on chilled media to emulate a 50-52°F water uptake. The cold duration is seven days at 50°F, in an aerobic environment, followed by a grow out at 77°F until 120+ Growing Degree Day (GDD) units are reached.  Check samples are planted and evaluated in every cart to assure consistency in testing.

50F NPK Cold Method

Developed by SoDak Labs, Inc. in 2019 to emulate use of a starter fertilizer placed near the seed furrow with cold imbibition at 50F in an aerobic soil environment.

50F Pre-Conditioned Cold Method

Specifically offered for new crop seed in September and October. Seed receives a 48-hour warm air conditioning process to equilibrate seed moisture content. Seed is then planted and evaluated as a standard 50F cold test.

What is Reported

Seedlings are evaluated as normal (strong), normal (slow), abnormal or unemerged. Report of analysis includes normal and slow normal percentages as well as remarks regarding the normal or abnormal seedlings.
